RAPAR Reveals Names Of Voluntary Returns Surgeries in the UK

There are 21 voluntary returns surgeries in the community in the UK, according to information sent to a RAPAR volunteer by the Home Office following a Freedom of Information request.
It took 10 months for our volunteer to obtain the information from the Home Office. The Home Office turned down our volunteer's initial Freedom of Information request, he then asked for an internal review but they still refused to send him the information. RAPAR will be taking part in two events on November 4th and 7th as part of the Economic and Social Research Council's Festival of Social Science
There are 450 events being held throughout the UK. The seminar and workshops that RAPAR members have worked on will take place in Huddersfield on Monday, November 4th, and at the Friends' Meeting House in Manchester on Thursday, November 7th. RAPAR's Community Development Lead and actor Maddie Wakeling is in court tomorrow (Monday September 9th) for campaigning against climate change.
Maddie, 22, was one of 16 people arrested on charges of obstructing a main road into Bristol city centre on July 17th as part of an Extinction Rebellion protest to publicise the climate crisis. Read More >>> Frack Free Three Back In Court – Report by “River”

The Frack-Free Three - Katrina Lawrie, Christopher Wilson, and Lee Walsh, protestors from the Frack-Free Lancashire campaign - were back in court for sentencing on Tuesday 3rd September in a case centred around the right to protest.
All three had locked themselves together in July 2018 to delay access to the fracking site near Blackpool run by the company Cuadrilla. Ms Lawrie had also stepped out into the road to stop a lorry in August 2018 and the lorry allegedly had to swerve into the path of oncoming traffic. No-one was hurt in the incident. RAPAR members from Southern Cameroon, Zimbabwe, Democratc Republic of Congo and Sierra Leone are taking part in Extinction Rebellion's climate crisis events in Deansgate, Manchester, today and over the weekend.

Indefinite detention of man from deportation flight to Jamaica must end

It is nearly three weeks since his deportation to Jamaica was halted following the intervention of his MP and overwhelming public support – but he still remains at real risk of removal. Changes to immigration rules are longer than War and Peace

Home Office officials have made more than 5,700 changes to the immigration rules since 2010, making the visa system nearly impossible to navigate.

A Guinean man who has made his home in Manchester for the last 12 years has been caught up in a Home Office "whirlpool" of bureaucracy.
Nestor Sylla, who is vice-chair of RAPAR and is involved with other charitable organisations in the city, came to Europe at the age of 26 looking for his mother after the death of his father and the murder of his sister in Guinea. Anna Maria Miwanda Bagenda was a mighty woman.
The first time she spoke for RAPAR it was at a Home Office organised conference about Refugees held at the newly completed Radisson Hotel at Manchester Airport in 2002. The stage was raised and Home Office officials were looking down upon us when Miwanda began to walk towards them from the back of the hall.
