- Return to the more realistic and appropriate English language requirements previously set for doctors and nurses from overseas so they can practice in the NHS which badly needs their expertise and skills.
- Return to previous English language testing scores for dentists, pharmacists and technicians, and for the councils registering those groups to introduce the Occupational English Test (OET) to cover medical contexts rather than topics which have nothing to do with their professions.

Medical Professionals in the UK Seeking Registration attend the NHS demonstration in London.
Medical Professionals in the UK Seeking Registration attend the NHS demonstration in London.
'Medical Professionals in the UK Seeking Registration' is a campaign group being launched through RAPAR of around 500 medical professionals - doctors, nurses, pharmacists and dentists - who are being prevented from working in the NHS because of the unreasonably high English language testing bar currently set by the General Medical Council (GMC). This problem also affects many more medical professionals who are not yet members of the campaign group.
The group's aim is to end this barrier by publicising the problem and gaining support from medical bodies in the UK and the wider general public.
In the past, the standard set by the GMC was both realistic and appropriate: doctors, nurses, pharmacists and dentists who passed the previous language test are currently working successfully in the UK and contributing to the NHS.
Most of the highly qualified medical professionals represented by the new campaign group are unable to return to their home countries to practice because they have been forced to leave for humanitarian reasons. The current unrealistic English testing score set by the GMC means that these medical professionals are being stopped from working in the NHS at this time when it badly needs of their qualifications, expertise and dedication.
The standards are set by the General Medical Council and the tests are created by IELTS.
This group of medical professionals intend to present preliminary research about these issues in the near future. To stay updated, please keep find our updates here and follow the hashtag #MPUKSR
